LCD display 16x4 characters, blue backlight, 5V – 1604A
Character LCD display, 16 characters × 4 lines, with blue background, white characters and LED backlight. It uses the standard 16-pin parallel interface and is compatible with HD44780 / ST7066 controllers. 1604A character LCD display
The LCD 1604A is an alphanumeric display module for showing text and numbers in electronic devices, automation systems, measuring equipment and microcontroller projects.
The display has 4 lines of 16 characters – twice as much information as the standard 1602 display (2 × 16), with the same wiring and the same commands. It is programmed with the standard HD44780 libraries (e.g. LiquidCrystal for Arduino) by setting the size to 16 × 4.
The interface is parallel and works in 8-bit or 4-bit mode. In 4-bit mode only lines DB4–DB7 are used, so only 6 microcontroller I/O pins are needed (RS, E, DB4–DB7), and R/W is connected to ground.
Contrast is adjusted through the VO input – usually with a 10 kΩ potentiometer between +5 V and GND.
The module has no built-in I2C adapter. For a 2-wire (I2C) connection, a separate PCF8574 I2C module can be used.
